| Blue, great and long tailed tits, grey heron, redshank, mallard (+ 4 young), coot (+ 2 young), lapwing, tufted duck, common tern, cormorant, canada goose, greylag goose, shoveler, oyster catcher, kingfisher, cuckoo (Heard), goldcrest, garden warbler, great crested grebe, cetti's warbler, jay, blackbird, water rail, reed warbler(?). Lots of butterflies in the warm sunshine - small white, orange tip, peacock, holly blue, brimstone. Black tern (sadly not seen by me) had been seen from East Marsh Hide. |

| From Carlton Hide: Mandarin duck, coots with 8 chicks, kingfisher, common terns, herons, ruddy duck, tufted ducks, lapwings, hobby, barn owl, whitethroat, marsh or willow tit, cormorant and a grass snake. |

Monday 1730-1900 Barn Owl showing well, hunting near golf course and returning to nest box with prey. Good sightings of Whitethroats, Sedge and Cettis Warblers from footpath overlooking Newlands between golf course and wooden bench. Cuckoo and Hobby in dead willows from Carlton Hide regularly seen off by Carrion Crows. Kingfishers over Carlton and Swallow pools. Six Common Terns on EMP. Male Ruddy Duck Carlton Pool. |

| Male Garganey on East Marsh Pool this morning. Not sure if it's one of the pair that have been on the Carlton Pool - or a newcomer. The pair have not been seen recently, and there was no sign of the female with todays male. |

Reserve teeming with many Blackcap, Cetti's (all over the reserve), Sedge, Reed, Whitethroat, Willow, Garden, and Chiffchaff, in rough order of decreasing numbers, but fewer waterbirds.
A few Greylag, Canada (inc. a pair with a gosling), BB Gulls, Cormorant,Mute Swan, slightly more Heron. 1 Little Grebe. Smattering of Lapwing. Coot with 6 young (cootlings?) on WMP. 1 female Grey Wagtail on WMP near island. 3 Kingfisher sightings. 4 Redshank (highly vocal). 1 Cuckoo heard. 2 Buzzard. 1 Kestrel. 2 Ringed Plover. 3 Sand Martin. 5 G Crested Grebe, inc. pair with 3 young. Green Woodpecker. 1 Pied Wagtail. 2 Shelduck (m and f). 5 Common Tern. 3 Reed Bunting heard. 1 Willow Tit (very quick sighting, but I'm pretty sure not Marsh).
2 Dunlin in full breeding plumage (EMP main island). 1 Common Sandpiper (same place).
Butterflies 3 Orange Tip males on or near cuckoo flower (WMP and CMP). 1 Brimstone Male (cleared area along from Horsetail Glade). |
