Azure Damselfly - Coenagrion puella

Description:
Adult male Azure Damselflies superficially resemble other coenagrionid damselflies in that their head, thorax and abdomen are coloured black and blue. Females are predominantly black, with green or blue sides to the thorax.
The male Azure can be distinguished from the Common Blue Damselfly by the much narrower blue antehumeral stripes on the thorax and the characteristic black U-shaped mark isolated from the black ring at the posterior end of abdominal segment 2.
Female Azures can be distinguished from the Common Blue by the absence of a spine below abdominal segment 8 and also by the presence of two black stripes on the side of the thorax.
There are two colour forms in the female, the blue (above) and the green.
